Amber Heard
In April, the trial in Virginia held audiences captivated as so many weird accusations and theatric emerged. As you know, Johnny won and was awarded him $15 million in damages. Admittedly, she won a small countersuit However, she needed to find $6 Million. This week, the news arrived that she now faced a lawsuit for allegedly taking out an insurance policy in anticipation of being sued.
Amber Heard continued her fight, but this time, against the decision made in her defamation case. Desperate to get the verdict overturned, her legal team decided to appeal. However, it doesn’t look like she’s getting much of anything that she wants. One of the reasons pointed to a juror who they believed hadn’t been properly vetted. But there’s no slack being cut for her at the moment.
Amber Heard – Post Trial Motions heard On Wednesday
According to The Daily Mail UK, “Lawyers representing Heard filed the motion earlier this month on the grounds that the verdict that she had defamed Depp were not supported by evidence.” Well, because she can afford to pay Johnny the money owed him, she perhaps hoped for some leniency. When the legal team complained about the juror, they believed it showed a lack of proper vetting. That came because of confusion about the birthday of the juror. Someone missed the fact that the date of birth was 1970, not 1945.
The legal team for Amber Heard also felt that the courts allowed way too much of an award to Johnny Depp. After all, they claimed that he didn’t limit his claims and he also didn’t provide the evidence required for a guilty verdict. Altogether, she had seven post-trial motions before the judge.
Appeal Process
As is common in court cases, the legal team failed to raise an objection during the case of Amber Heard. As the judge said, “A party cannot wait until receiving an adverse verdict to object, for the first time, on an issue known since the beginning of [the] trial.” That came when he gave his summary on the juror question. In fact, that is why people watch Court TV so often hear attorneys shouting out their objections.
Notably, the actual verdict appeal had not yet got an outcome.
