Jolie’s lawyers filed court documents in Los Angeles County Superior Court, seeking to compel Pitt to disclose personal conversations. Pitt’s lawyers have described the request as “wide-ranging and intrusive.”
In 2022, Pitt sued Jolie for selling her stake in Château Miraval, the winery they co-owned, alleging that she violated an agreement requiring mutual consent for any sale.
The couple has also been embroiled in a separate custody battle over their six children, five of whom have now reached legal age: Maddox (22), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16).
Allegations Of Abuse And NDA Controversy
Jolie’s attorneys claim that she did not act maliciously when selling her share of Miraval in 2021. Instead, they argue that Pitt refused to buy her interest unless she agreed to his newly expanded NDA, designed to silence her about his alleged abuse.
The court documents state, “While Pitt advances what is effectively an outdated privacy-of-domestic-violence argument to shield his abuse, his argument is not the law, at least not in this century.”
Pitt’s lawyers, in their July 15 filing, asked for Jolie’s motion to be denied, arguing that she is seeking sensitive communications related to therapy Pitt voluntarily undertook following the 2016 family plane incident that led to their divorce.
They contend that his private communications from that time should not be relevant to their winery dispute and accuse Jolie of trying to re-litigate their divorce.
Jolie’s legal team, however, insists that Pitt waived any privacy protections by suing her. They argue that Pitt’s refusal to buy her stake in the winery, unless she signed the NDA, was an attempt to enforce her silence about the alleged abuse.
“Jolie has no desire to litigate these issues and for years never publicly discussed any of it,” the documents read. “Rather than appreciate her discretion, Pitt sought to contractually mandate and enforce it.”
Ongoing Divorce Settlement
A source close to the couple recently told PEOPLE that Pitt and Jolie’s divorce settlement is still unresolved nearly eight years after their breakup. “Both sides are still talking,” the source said, “but it’s not done yet.”
In new court documents filed on August 1, Jolie’s team reiterated their motion to have Pitt turn over records related to the 2016 plane incident.
Jolie’s legal team argues that this case is not merely a business dispute, but rather about Pitt’s attempt to use Miraval as leverage to control and silence Jolie. They assert that Jolie is entitled to gather the evidence needed to support her claims.
In April, a judge ordered Jolie to produce eight years’ worth of NDAs as part of the ongoing litigation.
Jolie’s attorneys contend that Pitt’s insistence on the NDA was directly related to the alleged abuse and that his claims that the NDA had nothing to do with the divorce or their children are unfounded.
As the legal battles continue, the question remains whether Jolie’s withdrawal from negotiations with Pitt was indeed due to the NDA he requested.
