In the midst of Angelina Jolie‘s hotly contested custody battle with Brad Pitt, she’s found the time to write a book on children’s rights. Today Amnesty International and Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie announced a joint collaboration for young adults on their rights as set forth in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Child rights lawyer Geraldine Van Bueren QC consulted on the book which came about in response to concerns that individuals are often unaware of children’s human rights, leaving young people vulnerable and without protection.
Angelina Jolie Collaborates On A Book On The Rights Of children
The book is titled, Know Your Rights (And Claim Them) and it’s set to be released in September 2021. It coincides with a record number of young people staging protests around the world both in public and online. According to the Amnesty International website, the issues most often addressed are climate change, racism, and gender inequality, and the upcoming book will inform teens of their rights regardless of where they reside or, “who they are.”
Angelina Jolie said about the new project, “Today we have youth engaged and ready to fight. But many struggles with misinformation from adults, a lack of awareness of their rights, and a lack of knowledge of how to use the specifics of their rights, applying them to the country and circumstances in which they live. We need to give them the tools to strengthen their fight and empower them. Amnesty, Geraldine, and I hope to get these books into the hands of young people, and for them to be a guide that they can carry with them and use. Not just to inform them, but to activate them and serve as a source of reference where needed.”
Angelina’s announcement of her work on a children’s rights book comes while she is mired in a messy and protracted custody battle with Brad Pitt involving five of their six kids. It has been reported that she wants to raise them in France and that each is seeking joint physical custody of them. In November they will meet with a judge who will determine their custody arrangement for the holidays.
