Angelina Jolie Claims Americans Don’t Recognize ‘Domestic Violence And Child Abuse’ In USA

Angelina Jolie is once again bringing issues that matter to the frontlines. The actress and activist has recently been busy campaigning for displaced people all around the world. Earlier this month, she visited Yemen in order to open the eyes of the world to the horrors that the people of Yemen endure on a daily basis as a result of a civil war that has lasted for over 7 years.

Now, she’s drawing attention to a problem we all have, in one way or another, witnessed.

Angelina Jolie – Says “Domestic Violence” Is “Personal To Everyone”

On Wednesday, Jolie, who is the United Nations special envoy, spoke with NBC Nightly News’ Kate Snow about the Violence Against Women Act, which was recently signed into law by President Joe Biden. VAWA is established for the sole purpose of responding to and preventing domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking.

The “Those Who Wish Me Dead” actress previously contributed her expertise to the bill’s sponsors and advocates regarding provisions that should be made for children who have witnessed domestic violence in their homes.

During the interview, which also included head of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence Ruth Glenn, Jolie, 46, said “It is personal to everyone. Everyone who cares about family, everyone who cares about children, everyone who cares about their own safety and the health of their community.”

Continuing on, Jolie spells out the facts, saying, “This country doesn’t recognize what a serious domestic violence and child abuse problem it really has.”

In addition, she noted that VAWA being reinstated into law was “a long time coming.”

Jolie also advocated for Kayden’s Law, which requires trauma-informed court processes and legal standards and judicial training to aid in minimizing the risk of harm to children.

Last month, Jolie traveled to Washington D.C. with her daughter to advocate for VAWA. The pair previously visited D.C. last December as a result of their work advocating for the act.

“Honored to visit Washington, DC, with Zahara, working with advocates and lawmakers to modernize and strengthen the #ViolenceAgainstWomenAct to include protections for children’s health and safety, communities of color, tribes, LGBTQ survivors, rural areas, and all survivors,” wrote Jolie on Instagram at the time.

She also called for action to protect the most vulnerable during court proceedings, campaigning for the provision of technology “that can detect bruising across all skin tones and create non-biased forensic evidence collection”.
