The star of “Tomb Raider” Angelina Jolie, 48, recently shared her plans to leave her current city of residence for good. The revelation came during her recent interview with “Wall Street Journal Magazine.”
According to the actress, this decision stems from her experience with the public since her divorce from fellow actor Brad Pitt and their seven years-long legal battles.
Speaking with the outlet, Jolie shared that if she had to choose a career for herself in this recent era she wouldn’t choose acting.
“I wouldn’t be an actress today,” said Jolie in the December 5 article before adding, “When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.”
Being born into a family of actors by both parents, Jon Voight and her deceased mom Marcheline Bertrand, the “Maleficent” actress said she was never “impressed” by the profession, “Because I grew up around Hollywood, I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important.”
Angelina Jolie — Why Jolie Wants To Leave Los Angeles
Looking back at how much she has achieved during the course of her career, and how much of a star she is, she couldn’t help but agree that her divorce caused her a lot of stress especially since the world knows both she and Pitt.
The “Eternals” actress told “Wall Street Journal Magazine” that her divorce made her unable to move around freely as a result of the unwanted attention it brought her even though she cared less about what was said of her.
Jolie and Pitt began dating after they co-starred in the 2005 film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They dated for 10 years and married for two years before their tragic divorce.
They officially split in September 2016 but their divorce was finalized in 2019, and since then, they’ve been from one legal battle to the other. The duo share kids Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
“I’ve just been around so long and there’s been everything said,” said Jolie to the outlet before adding, “It’s part of what happened after my divorce. I lost the ability to live and travel as freely. I will move when I can.” She went on to share where her new abode will be: Cambodia.
Her reason is, “I grew up in quite a shallow place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.” Jolie went on to share that her “closest friends are refugees.” But apart from them, she is super close with her children adding, “They are the closest people to me and my life, and they’re my close friends,” she says. “We’re seven very different people, which is our strength.”
