In the past, Angelina has spoken out about the importance of gun safety for Hollywood films. And now, half a month after Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed Halyna Hutchins on the “Rust” film set, Jolie has addressed the topic once more. Find out the “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” star’s views below.
Angelina Jolie Emphasizes Importance Of Gun Safety In Hollywood
Reflecting on the death of Hutchins, Angelina Jolie expressed her sympathy in a recent interview reported in Grazia. “I can’t imagine what these families are going through,” stated the celebrity mom of six kids. “At this moment, the grief and the tragedy of that accident is quite overwhelming.”
Jolie pointed out that she has needed to “work with guns a lot” during her film career as both an actress and a director. As a result, the actress has learned to be “very careful.”
Based on her experience, Angelina believes that everyone on the set must follow strict guidelines with regard to guns. “The way I’ve worked or checked when I’m directing, there are certain procedures. You have to take it very seriously,” added the actress.
What Procedures Existed For ‘Rust’ Film Gun Safety?
As Angelina Jolie noted, films that utilize weapons such as guns typically establish specific procedures to protect the crew and actors. Since the death on the “Rust” movie set, however, reports have clashed as to the exact sequence of events leading up to the shooting by Alec Baldwin.
In a recent statement, Baldwin talked with journalists who had followed him. “A woman died. She was my friend, she was my friend,” stated the “Rust” movie actor emotionally. “When I arrived in Sante Fe to start shooting, I took her to dinner.”
Baldwin described the atmosphere on set as consisting of a “very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together when this horrible event happened.” Amid the ongoing investigation, however, the specifics of how that “very well-oiled crew” could have allowed a gun with live ammunition to be shot remain unknown.
What Occurred Before ‘Rust’ Film Death?
In addition to Alec Baldwin’s statement, “Rust” movie director Joel Souza has discussed the tragedy. Wounded by the shooting, Souza also failed to reveal exact gun safety procedures on set. But Souza did reveal the situation prior to Hutchins’ death.
Prior to the shooting, Baldwin rehearsed a scene. The actor then received a gun that supposedly was unloaded, known as “cold.” The setup involved Baldwin seated in a church building pew.
“Joel stated that they had Alec sitting in a pew in a church building setting, and he was practicing a cross draw,” according to the affidavit containing Souza’s statement. “Joel said he was looking over the shoulder of Halyna, when he heard what sounded like a whip and then loud pop.”
