Angelina Jolie Wants Her Focus To Be More On Family
In an interview that the award-winning actress did in honor of the upcoming release of her latest trailer, Those Who Wish Me Dead, the star told Entertainment Weekly that she stepped back from directing in order to be more present for her children. Her last directing gig was on 2017’s First They Killed My Father.
“I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that’s not made it possible for me to direct for a few years,” said Jolie, 45, who is still going through a heated custody battle with her husband Brad Pitt. She filed the divorce back in 2016, citing abusive behavior as one of the causes of the divorce.
She shares six children with Brad Pitt, three of whom were adopted internationally. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are parents to Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Angelina Jolie said that she is currently devoted to being a mother and wants to be present in the lives of her children, even if it means temporarily having to forego doing something that she loves. Her bitter divorce battle with Brad Pitt has been predicted to cost the ex-couple upwards of $1M each.
“I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs,” Jolie told EW. “That’s really the truth of it.”
Acting takes a lot less time than directing, which can happen over the course of several years depending on the movie. So it’s reasonable that Jolie would quit it to be able to spend more “mom time” with her kids.
Angelina Jolie Was Forced To Learn How To Suppress Her Mom Instincts For A Movie Role
Jolie also revealed that she had to suppress her mom instincts when filming the upcoming movie Those Who Wish Me Dead, “Sometimes [director Taylor Sheridan] would correct me because my behavior towards a child was different from [Hannah’s] behavior towards a child. It took me a little bit to treat [teen actor Finn Little] badly, but I got there!” she remembered with a laugh.
As for parenthood, Jolie admitted that she loves all stages of it. “I loved having babies, but I love sitting up at night and talking to my kids,” the actress shared, but she further says that she loves the teenage age better because she gets to have fun hanging out and talking with them.
Her upcoming movie Those Who Wish Me Dead will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on May 14.
