Jolie didn’t just pop up in a café in L’viv, she also visited a medical institution, according to CNN. Maksym Kozytskyy, head of L’viv’s regional military administration, said, “In one of the medical institutions, she has visited children who suffered from a missile strike by the Russian military on the Kramatorsk train station. She was very moved by their stories. One girl was even able to tell Ms. Jolie about her dream privately.”
While there, Jolie visited with residents of a boarding school that has become a stopover for displaced Ukrainian citizens, humanitarian aid, and weapons. While there the actress reportedly told children that she would be returning to see them.

At the main railway station in L’viv Jolie visited with volunteers who were providing medical and psychological aid. According to Kozytskyy, the activist thanked them for their tireless efforts after they had “managed to leave the zones of active hostilities.”
Jolie, who has been extremely active in humanitarian and conservation efforts throughout the world and for many years, having first taken interest in 2001 when she was filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) in war-torn Cambodia.

Though Jolie is a United Nations special envoy for refugees, she reportedly traveled to Ukraine in an unofficial capacity and UNHCR was not involved in her L’viv visit. The humanitarian and conservationist traveled to Yemen in March of this year and, while there, drew parallels Yemeni people suffering and the suffering of Ukrainian citizens because of Russian aggression.

According to Geo News, a video of the actress’s visit to the L’viv café was shared on Facebook by a Ukrainian fan, Maya Pidhorodetska, who wrote, “Nothing special. Just L’viv. I just went to have coffee. Just Angelina Jolie.”
