Angelina Jolie’s Request DENIED To Toss Out Brad Pitt’s Vineyard Lawsuit

Brad Pitt just got a one-up on his ex-wife Angelina Jolie amid their bitter law battle. The once upon a time celebrity power couple who finalized their divorce in 2019 are still at loggerheads over their winery Château Miraval but recently, the odds are in Pitt’s favor. Here’s a little recap of what’s been going on.

In May 2021, The “World War Z” actor won 50-50 joint legal and physical custody of his children which he shares with the “Maleficent” actress (The pair share six kids: Maddox, 22, Pax, 19, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15). That same year, Jolie sold her share of Château Miraval for $64M to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.

The sale was announced by Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of spirits company Stoli Group which bought Jolie’s share.

The following year, in February 2022, Pitt sued Jolie for selling half of her share of Miraval without consulting him first because they previously agreed that they would grant each other first refusal.

Few months later in June, Pitt amended the lawsuit he filed in Los Angeles court over the matter. Pitt claimed in the lawsuit that Jolie’s action was as a result of bitterness over the result of their custody battle.

The amended lawsuit stated that “In the wake of the adverse custody ruling, she no longer wanted to sell to Pitt, notwithstanding her contractual obligations and years of assurances to him. Jolie went forward with the vindictive putative sale in breach of her and Nouvel’s contractual obligations.” Pitt requested a reversal of Jolie’s sale of her stake in the vineyard.

Angelina Jolie — On Jolie’s Lawsuit And Rejection

In September, the “Those Who Wish Me Dead” actress hit back with a cross-complaint requesting the sum of $350M in damages. In November, the 48-year-old attempted to overturn a preliminary ruling at the LA Superior Court that permits Pitt’s claim to proceed on the grounds that Pitt’s lawsuit was “frivolous, malicious, and part of a problematic pattern.”

However, last week, Judge Lia Martin rejected Jolie’s request to overturn the “Bullet Train” star’s suit. The judge also granted Pitt and his team a go-ahead to sue Jolie for breach of implied-in-fact contract, breach of quasi-contract, and to amend an overruled claim for breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.

In October 2021, Stoli Group announced their “purchase of 50 percent of Chateau Miraval, and the Miraval brand, from Angelina Jolie.” The company also added, “We are thrilled to have a position alongside Brad Pitt as curators of their extraordinary vintages.” Pitt claimed he got to know about the sale of Nouvel through the announcement, and afterwards, Sheffler attempted to “Threaten” and “Bully” him to meet up since they’re now partners.

The exclusive legal documents obtained by “The U.S. Sun” at the time stated, “Shefler personally took action to foster his supposed partnership with Pitt after the transaction closed, writing Pitt repeatedly to bully him into going along.”
