In late June, when foodie fans heard that Anne Burrell had passed away, they were shattered and very sad. The spiked, platinum-blonde chef known for shows like Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, was only 55 when she died in her Brooklyn home. Now that her cause of death has been revealed, they don’t want to hear it, or believe it.
Cause Of Anne’s Death
On Thursday, The Sun US published the cause of death. Fans already knew that allegedly, her husband had found her in the bathroom with some pills scattered around. Now, those pills factored into the cause of death. Caution: This article might be triggering for some people

The report revealed that Anne Burrell had ingested “diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.” Taken together, they made for a “lethal combination.” Basically, she died from “acute intoxication.” If you don’t know, ethanol is alcohol and the other pills were mostly for allergies. But, the “Amphetamine is a stimulant often used in ADHD medication like Adderall.”
No mention was made of a suicide note, but the findings by the New York City Medical Examiner state that “the manner of death was suicide.
Fans Don’t Want To Believe It
When the outlet shared the news on Facebook, many people hoped that it was wrong. She’d been out and enjoyed a good time. So, they hoped that she’d maybe inadvertently taken some pills on top of a few drinks. Nobody wants to think she felt so sad that she took her own life.
In the comments section, one fan wrote, “I don’t believe that it was suicide.” And, many others expressed the same opinion. Here are a few of them:
- I don’t believe that!
- I’m confused-doesn’t that sound accidental? Like mixing drugs and alcohol?
- I don’t believe this.
It Is Not Easy To Deal With
Other Food Network fans realized that it’s never easy to know what is going on in the lives of other people. Remember, many similar sentiments arrived when Robin Williams passed away. Nobody wanted to believe that someone who brought so much joy to others felt badly about their life.
Other famous names include Freddie Prinze, Gia Allemand, Naomi Judd, Jason David Frank, Matthew Mindler, and a host of others who took their own lives. Each one made people hope that the cause of death was wrong.
So Often People Seem Fine
There must have been millions of “if only” statements over the years. But, if people are not aware of deep depression, it’s not easy to know what is going on. Apparently, Anne Burrell had seemed just fine.
A source told the outlet, “She was in great spirits last night during and after the improv show. Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.” Apparently, she did some “improv comedy” and made others laugh. While it seems inexplicable to her fans, for now, taking her own life is the official verdict.
