For years fans have been speculating, praying and campaigning for another trip to Genovia to see what our favorite down-to-earth fictional royal has been up to in the years since we last saw her. Now, we’re a step closer to seeing that happen.

Anne Hathaway Says Development Has Started On “The Princess Diaries 3”

Who guessed that this day would come after so many years? Yes, they confirmed that there’s interest to develop another movie in the “The Princess Diaries” franchise last year, but nothing was 100% set.

Now, Anne Hathaway has definitely brought us the news we’ve all been perking our ears up to hear this whole time.

In her recent V magazine interview, she revealed that the third addition to the beloved franchise has entered development, with screenwriter Aadrita Mukerji penning the script.

“We’re in a good place,” Hathaway said. “That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”

As it’s still in its early stages, she could not share details yet. The franchise follows Mia Thermopolis, who, surprise, found out that she was heir to the fictional country Genovia at the age of sixteen.

With the help of her grandmother, she begins to adjust to life as a royal and to cope with the responsibility of her birthright.

While she shared a beautiful update for “The Princess Diaries 3,” she did crush the hopes of some of “The Devil Wears Prada” fans when she said she isn’t interested in seeing it back.

When Hathaway was asked about plans for a “The Devil Wears Prada” sequel, her answer was not so consoling: “probably not.”

“We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to. But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object.

Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different. Maybe me, Stanley, Emily, Meryl, Dave Frankel, Patricia Field… we should just all do something else together. That’d be fun.”
