Ariana Madix has been cancer free for seven years, and she’s finally opening up about her experience. The ‘Vanderpump Rules’ star, who was at the center of Scandoval a few months back, shared her journey with fans on Instagram on Wednesday, March 26.
Ariana Madix On How She Noticed A Dark Spot On Her Skin
Melanoma, as some of us knows, appears as a dark-pigmented spot on the skin arising from a melanocyte. It is usually a malignant tumor and occurs more frequently on the skin.
Madix had discovered this spot on her skin prior to deciding to see a surgeon. “I had noticed a dark spot here,” she said, rubbing her chest. “But it was a few years before I decided to do anything about it. A major push for me to see the dermatologist came from my [Instagram] followers. I went to see a dermatologist and he immediately made me see a plastic surgeon.”
Whilst the mole was not an issue for the surgeon, testing the mole revealed a scarier underlying condition. “I’m so glad that I went that day because it was not benign. It was melanoma,” she continued.
The doctor then removed a much larger area of skin and lymph nodes from under her arm to make sure that the cancer had not spread, and luckily for the ‘Something About Her’ co-owner, it had not.
Madix recalled that it was a significant moment of her life, especially now that it’s all healed and all that’s left is a scar. “Now I just have this lovely scar across my chest,” she explained.
What Ariana Madix Had Previously Said About Her Melonama
Word of advice, when a mole appears on a part of your skin, it’s usually wise to consult with your doctor, because while most are benign, some turn out to be malignant and are signs of an early onset of cancer.
Due to receiving this sign early, Madix told Entertainment Tonight in 2019 that she has routine checks to monitor the condition.
She said: “Once you have it, it’s much easier to have it again or have it throughout your life, especially that I’m young,” she explained. “It’s going to be an ongoing thing, but right now, I do not have cancer in my body.”
Madix then shared a clever word of advice at the time, saying, “Skin cancer can be so fast and aggressive. I was lucky, and mine wasn’t moving very quickly, but I don’t want any of my friends or family to be in a position where they don’t get checked and it’s too late.”
Nobody came into this world with a cancer tag, so the sooner you check out any suspicious skin moles, the better.
