While Ben Affleck is someone who loves to do his research before beginning a new project or a film, this time around he did things a little bit different. The actor, director, and producer recently explained why he didn’t consult shoe brand Nike before making his latest movie, “Air.”
Affleck stars in the movie, which is about how Nike created the massively successful Air Jordan shoe line back in the day. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Ben Affleck Explains Why He Didn’t Consult Nike Before Filming ‘Air’
In a new interview, the Hollywood actor said that he only talked to Michael Jordan about his version of events but did not reach out to Nike for their side of the story. In the film, Affleck plays Nike CEO Phil Knight.
He put it this way, “I did not have a conversation with Nike because I didn’t feel the same sense of personal responsibility [as I did to Michael Jordan] because it’s not a history of Nike. There’s interviews and books about that.”
With that said, Affleck did add that he doesn’t want people to think that this movie is a story just about Michael Jordan, as it’s more than just that.
He said, “Jordan is — he’s a hero to me. I know how important and meaningful a figure he is, in particular in the African American community. If you’re going to fuck around with talking about Michael Jordan, do it respectfully. This is an optimistic, hopeful movie about people. So I can’t hide behind being an auteur – [as if to say] ‘you don’t need to understand my movie.’ I really hope you like it … So no pressure, but it’s all on you.”
