Country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus has been granted an emergency motion that prevents ex-wife, Firerose, from spending money with his credit cards as the two continue to duke it out during their divorce.

Court documents obtained by ET show that a judge in Tennessee recently ruled that “there is no legitimate reason” for Firerose “to have access to and to make any additional charges” on Cyrus’ credit cards.

Details of The Court Order And Background of The Divorce

An order issued by the judge, immediately after a hearing on July 1, instructed both parties to ‘exchange income and expense statements as well as asset and liability statements’ by July 11, and to start “engage in good faith mediation” by August 31.

Cyrus and Firerose’s union didn’t last long. They tied the knot in October 2023, and less than a year later, Cyrus filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct”, and stating that his “consent to marriage was obtained ‘by fraud’.

A few days after filing for divorce on May 23, Cyrus alleged that Firerose had already spent more than $96,000 of his money and he filed another emergency motion to stop her from doing what he considered “unauthorized” use of his money.

Johanna Rose Hodges, better known as Firerose, refuted these allegations. She stated in court documents that Cyrus had no right to cut her off because she was just living her life as she had been doing since the start of their marriage. She also claimed that during their marriage, Cyrus had abused her verbally, psychologically, and emotionally.

Allegations, Counterclaims, And Public Statements

Cyrus’ attorneys, Rose Palermo, and Jason Talley, refuted these allegations, stating that Firerose had tried to reconcile with Cyrus shortly after he filed for divorce, which they argued undermined her abuse claims.

The legal battle escalated with both parties levying serious accusations against each other. Cyrus alleged that Firerose was verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive, and claimed she isolated him from his family.

Firerose’s attorneys dismissed these allegations as another abusive tactic by Cyrus to distract from her serious claims against him. Firerose also told Page Six that Cyrus had “very strict rules” and could be “illogical, insane, and terrifying.”

Despite the tumultuous proceedings, the court found no wrongdoing by Firerose in the specific instance of credit card use, contradicting Cyrus’ fraud claims.

However, it was determined that Firerose did not have authorization to use Cyrus’ business credit card for the charges she made, leading to the ruling that she be restrained from further accessing Cyrus’ business or personal accounts.

As the divorce proceedings continue, the public statements and court filings reveal a deeply fractured relationship, with both parties accusing the other of significant misconduct.

Cyrus’ rep had no comment on Firerose’s claims of his strict and isolating behavior. Still, Cyrus seemed to address the situation on Instagram, implying that the truth would soon be revealed.
