Lily Bloom may have despised her parents for the toxic home they made for her – her father for abusing her mother and her mother for silently enduring it – but she unwittingly finds herself trapped in like situation when she falls for Ryle, a compulsive rager.
Despite feeling one of his wraths on a day she would not forget so easily, she still makes the mistake of impulsively marrying him one night.
However, when she gives birth to a daughter for Ryle, she finally decides that it’s time to end the cycle of abuse and trauma, sweetly promising her child, “it ends with us.”
“It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover was lauded by critics for the engaging and purely emotional way she touched on this supersensitive topic.
As of date, the book has sold over a million copies and has been adapted in 20 different languages, so it’s not hard to see why it’s been picked up for a screen adaptation.
In July 2019, Justin Baldoni optioned the novel for a film adaptation, produced through his Wayfarer Entertainment company.
The first draft screenplay was completed in October 2021, with Blake Lively being cast as the protagonist Lily Bloom in January 2023.
As well as directing, Baldoni also joined the film as neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, aka Lily’s toxic lover. With a screenplay written by Christy Hall, fans are highly anticipating its release.
What Author Colleen Hoover Thinks About Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s Casting
If you’re a fan of the book, you might be wondering why Lively, Baldoni, Brandon Sklenar (Atlas) were cast, while in the book, the characters they are portraying are still in their 20s.
Well, after learning how neurosurgeons are trained, Hoover readily agreed that aging them up for the screen adaptation was a wise and natural decision.
Speaking on Lively and Baldoni’s casting, she said, “I think that Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively have what it takes to bring these characters to life, and I cannot wait for you guys to see that happen. I’m so excited, y’all. I can’t even wrap my mind around this.”
The film is expected to premiere on June 21, 2024 only in theaters.
