Country music fans felt thrilled to see Blake Shelton as the featured artist on a CBS show for the New Year. And the network hyped the country music legend as performing a live show. However, Blake recorded his New Year’s Eve performance ahead of time, per TMZ.

As a result, furious viewers turned to social media to sound off. And some slammed Shelton as an embarrassment to country music. But CBS might deserve some of the blame, given that the network did title the show “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.”

However, fans quickly realized that Shelton prerecorded his performance. And that sparked a backlash on social media. In addition to the country music king, the show featured Trace Adkins. And he reunited with Shelton for some long-time favorites such as “Hillbilly Bone” and “Hell Right.”

But social media quickly realized that Shelton had prerecorded his performance on the CBS show. And that’s because the network aired his songs just minutes before Blake hopped on stage at a casino in Oklahoma. As a result, viewers soon realized what happened.

And some did accuse CBS of double-booking Shelton. However, most aimed their wrath at Blake for faking a live performance on TV while profiting from his real life performance in Oklahoma as well. For instance, one viewer slammed Shelton for humiliating other country music stars who care about their fans.

But one fan noted the situation ahead of time. And the viewer pointed out that Shelton had accepted the chance to perform at WinStar World Casino and Resort on New Year’s Eve amid his alleged live performance on CBS. “How’s Blake Shelton ‘live’ in Nashville for #CBSNashvilleNYE when he’s about to go on stage at @WinStarWorld in 5min?” mocked the viewer. 

But another shared, “#CBSNashvilleNYE WTF is this? Thomas Rhett and Blake Shelton sound like absolute a**.” And one critic described Blake’s duet with Trace “one of the dumbest songs.” Meanwhile, fans who actually watched Shelton’s actual live gig at Oklahoma’s WinStar Casino cheered.

For instance, one fan wrote, “And here it is , @blakeshelton performing GOODBYE TIME at Winstar World Casino in Thuckerville, OK for its NYE celebration It’s been so long since Blake sang this live. He did so so beautifully – one of the very few who can give this song justice.”

But what happened to Blake’s wife Gwen Stefani? Gwen explained that she planned to spend New Year’s Eve apart from Blake via the Sun. And she shared that the couple would welcome the New Year in different time zones because both accepted work opportunities.

However, Stefani defended herself as planning to make time to see Shelton live. “Because I was going to be at his show,” shared the songstress. “And then Las Vegas called. So I was like, ‘Eh, I’m gonna do it’.”

And amid rumors of marriage trouble, Gwen admitted that she defied Blake. And she informed him, “If you’re gonna be working then I’m gonna be working. “So, I’m just gonna fly in and out,” she added. And adding to the gossip that her relationship with Shelton faces problems, Stefani shared her delight in spending New Year’s Eve without her hubby. 

“It’s gonna be awesome,” Gwen gushed. And she added, “I’m really looking forward to it.”
