The 76-year-old actor feels the public are taking their criticism of J.K. Rowling too far. He sees nothing wrong with Rowling expressing herself and what she feels as a woman. According to Cox, Rowling’s stance doesn’t call for that much call outs.
Cox said, “As a woman, she’s very much entitled to say what she feels about her own body. There’s nobody better to say that, as a woman. So, I do feel that people have been a bit high and mighty about their own attitude toward J.K. Rowling.”
Liking the Twitter post wasn’t the only time Rowling got slammed by critics. She also got slamed in 2019 after she tweeted her support to Maya Forstater a British researcher who was relieved of her duty at Centre for Global Development for making several posts on social media saying that transgender women are men.
Since then till date, Rowling has made it her mission to always be vocal with her feelings regarding her womanhood and transgender, and she has always been criticized for that.
Brian Cox — Stars Who Support, And Stars Who Are Against Rowling
Following her continuous transphobic comments, many stars of the Harry Potter franchise including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, and Ralph Fiennes have all voiced their opinions on the matter.
While Radcliffe and Watson were against Rowling, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes were in support of the 57-year-old author. Sometime last year, Fiennes voiced his support for Rowling by saying that he understands what Rowling meant.
According to the interview Fiennes had with “New York Times” concerning the issue, he said, “J.K. Rowling has written these great books about empowerment, about young children finding themselves as human beings. It’s about how you become a better, stronger, more morally centered human being.”
He added that, “The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling. I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women. But it’s not some obscene, über-right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman.”
