Britney Spears Denies Rumors She’s Returning To the Music Industry

Nope! Britney Spears is not teaming up with UK pop singer-songwriter Charli XCX for a comeback of the century. 2024 may be the 25th year since she debuted as an artist, but the music industry is one aspect of her life she doesn’t want to revisit.

According to her, she’s better off writing songs for other artists than putting herself back into the spotlight again.

Britney Spears Reveals She’s Written Songs For Twenty Other Artists In Two Years

Britney Spears really meant it when she said she was taking an indefinite hiatus from music. After news surfaced that the pop powerhouse reached out to fellow chart-topper Charli XCX to write songs for her next album, Spears took an open flame to the news denying its possibility.

Britney Spears Denies Rumors She's Returning To the Music Industry

She shared the news on Instagram with the picture of a woman holding a man’s severed head. “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!!” she began the post. “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!”

“When I write I write for fun or I write for other people !! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads you don’t know about me. I’ve written 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!”

Either Spears, 42, is using a pseudonym to write for others, or none of the songs she’s written for other artists have been released, because no song bearing her name in its credits have been released within that time frame.

The last time Spears released a full-length album was in 2016 with “Glory Days.” Shortly after the release, she went on tour, but cancelled the remaining dates to focus on herself.

When the conservatorship ended, Spears wrote a book instead, detailing the highs and lows of growing up as a massively successful singer, and how her conservatorship acted like a chokehold to her talent.

“Music was my life and the conservatorship” – which controlled every aspect of her life from 2008-2021 – “was deadly for that,” she wrote in the memoir.
