Britney Spears To Continue Paying Child Support Despite Sons’ Coming of Age For This Reason

Britney Spears is not yet out of the woods when it comes to paying parental fees for one of her sons with ex Kevin Federline. Even though her youngest Jayden is now 18, Federline’s lawyer has revealed that she will continue to pay child support. Here’s why.

California Law Prevents Britney Spears From Discontinuing Child Support Payments For Jayden

Jayden celebrated his 18th birthday this week, and by law, Britney can choose to stop paying child support if she wants. However, this does not apply to Jayden due to this special California clause.

Federline’s attorney, Vincent Kaplan, recently revealed the specific law that’ll keep Jayden enjoying that sweet mummy money a while longer.

“Under California law, child support jurisdiction continues until the minor child reaches the age of 18, or if upon their 18th birthday they have not yet graduated high school, it continues until they graduate high school, but in no event later than their 19th birthday,” Kaplan told PEOPLE.

“The child support in this case for Jayden is being paid consistent with that law. His graduation for high school will be in November.”

However, whether it’s legally required or not, Britney’s priority will always be to support her sons, Jayden and Sean, 19. A source said of the ‘Circus’ hitmaker’s disposition to helping her boys: “Britney has plans for the boys’ future and will do whatever she can and will always continue to love and support them.”

Britney Spears’ Current Relationship With Her Sons

At the moment, the relationship between mother and sons is deeply fractured, with the boys choosing to go to Hawaii with their father Kevin Federline and wife Victoria Prince.

However, Jayden noted that the relationship can certainly be fixed and that he’s looking forward to reuniting with her. “It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort,” he continued. “When she gets better I really want to see her again.”

In a personal message to his mom, he said, “I love you a lot, I hope for the best for you. Maybe one day we can sit down like this and talk again.”
