Brooke Shields Recalls Being Raped In Her “Pretty Baby” Documentary

Brooke Shields who has in the past detailed how she was sexualized as a child actor, has now come out to share how she was raped by someone she knew, and that it happened not long after she graduated college in Princeton.

My heart goes out to the little Brooke Shields who was made to appear nude on our screens as young as 11 and 15 years, and also became a victim of rape through no fault of hers.

Brooke Shields — Brooke’s Rape Story

In her new documentary titled “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields” which premiered at Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January, 20, —per Entertainment Weekly, the model conveyed how she was raped shortly after graduating from college by a man she knew.

According to Brooke, she met up with the man over dinner to discuss work but afterwards, he asked her to wait in his hotel room while he calls her a cab. “He said, ‘Come back to the hotel and I’ll call a cab,'” said Brooke in her documentary “And I go up to the hotel room, and he disappears for awhile.”

Brooke Shields Recalls Being Raped After College In Her "Pretty Baby" Documentary

Brooke who didn’t reveal her rapist’s identity went on to share how she was uncomfortable sitting in a strange room. She recalled seeing the man’s binoculars and taking them to peep through the window until the man returned…not with a cab but stark naked.

“The door opens, the person comes out naked, and I’ve got the binoculars and I’m like, ‘S—,’ and I put the binoculars down and he’s right on me. Just like, was wrestling,” said Brooke.

The 57-year-old mom of two added that when the man pounced on her, she found it difficult to defend herself because she thought that if she lifts as much as a finger, he might murder her. She preferred to come out of it alive.

So I didn’t fight that much. I didn’t. I just absolutely froze. I thought one ‘No’ should’ve been enough, and I just thought, ‘Stay alive and get out,’ and I just shut it out. God knows I knew how to be disassociated from my body. I’d practiced that…. I went down in the elevator, and I got my own cab. I just cried all the way to my friend’s apartment.”

Brooke Shields — Brooke Didn’t Realize She Was Raped

For a long time, Brooke didn’t quite realize the impact of what was done to her. She had to hear it from her security specialist Gavin de Becker that she was raped, and even after that, she chose to believe otherwise. “He said, ‘That’s rape.’ And I said, ‘I’m not willing to believe that,'” said Brooke.

The “Endless Love” actress admitted that she blamed herself for what happened to her by thinking that she might have sent a signal that suggested it to the man.

“He said to me, ‘I can trust you and I can’t trust people.’ It’s so cliché, it’s practically pathetic. I believed somehow I put out a message and that was how the message was received. I drank wine at dinner. I went up to the room. I just was so trusting.”

The star of “Blue Lagoon” said she later wrote her rapist a letter telling him of breaking her trust in him. It was after the man dismissed her letter that she decided not to let herself be a victim.

“I just threw my hands up and said, ‘You know what, I refuse to be a victim because this is something that happens no matter who you are and no matter what you think you’re prepared for or not,'”

Brooke concluded with, “I wanted to erase the whole thing from my mind and body and just keep on the path I was on. The system had never once come to help me. So I just had to get stronger on my own.”

The first two words from the title of Brooke’s new documentary “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields” was gotten from the title of the 1978 film “Pretty Baby” in which —then 11-year-old Brooke stripped naked while she kissed then 29-year-old Keith Carradine.
