Bruce Springsteen, “retire” *checks notes – nah those two words don’t go together. The same goes for the “farewell tour” that fans rumor he’s been planning to embark on. If you ask Bruce Springsteen, he’ll ask you, “farewell to what?” Good question, don’t you agree?
Bruce Springsteen Has Been Around For “Fifty Years” And Doesn’t Plan On Leaving the Stage Anytime Soon
Bruce Springsteen is a passionate performer through and through. If Willie Nelson at his age hasn’t said goodbye to the stage, then of course you won’t find Springsteen doing it. At least not anytime soon.
Addressing the retirement rumors that have begun to plague his career as of recent, the 20-time Grammy winner took to X to share a clip that saw him say, “We ain’t doing no farewell tour bulls— Jesus Christ. No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”
In case that’s not enough for fans, he also reiterated the sentiment on Friday, Aug. 23 by revealing that he’s “been around for 50 f—ing years” during his gig at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
This means that fans will be seeing him in more locations and putting on more shows even beyond his September gig at Washington DC.
“Hell no… Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name? Yeah, I wanna quit that,” Springsteen, 74, added. “That’s it. That’s all it takes. I ain’t goin’ anywhere.”
His longtime guitarist Van Zandt agreed, shutting down retirement rumors in an interview with The Telegraph.
“I don’t see the end anywhere in sight, to be honest, especially in Europe, where we’re bigger than we’ve ever been,” he said of the E Street Band’s future at the July interview. “I think we can play every summer for evermore, man.”
The rumors likely arose due to the band being forced to postpone several European tour dates this year. At the time, it was explained that The Boss couldn’t honor the dates as a result of “vocal issues.”
In 2023, Springsteen also postponed several shows, explaining to his fans the need to rest amid his ongoing battle with peptic ulcer disease.
However, this year, he’s tried his best to make up for lost time by performing surprise gigs – like when he showed up at a Zach Bryan show this month to sing a duet of his 1982 song “Atlantic City” – in the middle of his ongoing tour.
