His daughter recently shared that he is “doing well,” and his ex-wife Demi Moore mentioned that he is in a “stable place.” However, new insights suggest that his family is concerned about his future as his condition worsens.
Family Worried About Time Running Out
According to reports, Bruce Willis‘ loved ones fear they have limited time with the 69-year-old actor, who retired from acting due to health complications.
Two and a half years ago, Willis stepped away from Hollywood after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that affects communication. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Earlier this September, Bruce was spotted in Los Angeles during a brief outing, though he remained in the car while his bodyguards and driver accompanied him on a 35-minute drive. He appeared relaxed, taking in his surroundings from the back seat.
An eyewitness told In Touch, “He didn’t get out of the car.” Sadly, this may become a rare occurrence as his health continues to decline.
A family source revealed to In Touch that the disease has advanced significantly, leading them to fear Bruce might not live to celebrate his 70th birthday. His declining condition has made it a priority for his family to focus on ensuring he feels safe and comfortable during these challenging times.
Struggles With Memory And Mobility
As frontotemporal dementia progresses, Bruce is beginning to lose more memories, causing growing concern within his family. His outings are rare and meticulously planned to prevent him from feeling overwhelmed or confused.
Caretakers are constantly with him, helping him with tasks such as getting into vehicles. He also has bodyguards to protect him from public encounters that might distress him.
A source added that Bruce now appears more vulnerable and dependent, a stark contrast to the vibrant personality he once had.
Glenn Gordon Caron, creator of Moonlighting, visited him last year and shared that Bruce is still mentally present but “sees the world through a screen door,” indicating his diminishing cognitive abilities.
Unfortunately, Bruce reportedly no longer recognizes some people, including his ex-wife Demi Moore, though she continues to visit him regularly when she’s in Los Angeles.
Tallulah Willis, Bruce’s daughter, recently echoed the family’s fears that time is running out, stating, “I have hopes for my father that I’m so reluctant to let go of. I’ve always recognized parts of him in myself, and I know we’d be great friends if there were more time.”
Coping With The Diagnosis
The family has been grappling with Bruce’s worsening condition ever since his diagnosis was made public in 2022. The New Jersey-born actor, who became a household name for his roles in Die Hard, The Sixth Sense, and Pulp Fiction, retired after being diagnosed with aphasia.
Frontotemporal dementia, which was diagnosed later, is known to cause difficulties in speech and mobility as well as changes in personality, making daily life more challenging for Bruce and his family.
During an appearance on NBC’s Today on September 18, Tallulah Willis gave a brief update on her father’s health while discussing her autism diagnosis. She said, “He’s doing stable, which, in this case, is good, but it’s hard. There are painful days, but there’s also a lot of love.”
A Difficult Road Ahead
As Bruce’s condition progresses, the family continues to make the most of their time together. A source told In Touch Weekly that the actor is surrounded by caretakers who supervise him whenever he goes out.
The family, however, is weighed down by the constant concern about how much time they have left with Bruce, making every visit count.
Bruce’s close friend, Glenn Gordon Caron, mentioned that the actor is no longer able to communicate verbally. He shared that when you’re with Bruce, you can tell he’s still “there,” but his vibrant personality has faded. The actor’s family is heartbroken by how vulnerable and dependent he has become.
Tallulah, who has spoken about the emotional difficulty of seeing her father, said in an interview with People that she needs to be mentally prepared before visiting him. “I need to make sure I’m solid before I see him so I can just be present,” she explained, adding that spending time with him has become an essential part of her routine.
