Bruce Willis started out in life with a speech impediment but rose to become an extremely popular movie star. You probably recall him in Die Hard, Armageddon, and other big movies.
So, it seems very sad that nowadays, he struggles to communicate at all. Recent medical updates reveal that his health is likely to get worse.
Bruce Willis Had To Retire After Aphasia
Fans felt terribly sad when they heard the news that their screen hero had been diagnosed with Aphasia. The news that came at the end of March last year, meant that his career was effectively over.
That’s because the illness causes problems with communicating. When the news arrived via his family on Instagram, the statement said, “Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
By July, the wife of Bruce Willis, Emma, was burning out from being a full-time carer to her husband. Actually, it’s terribly difficult for anyone. In the case of her husband, his illness made it hard for him to understand or even speak.
No wonder she started to worry about her own mental health. However, things are not going to get any easier for the family as recent medical tests confirmed that the actor is probably going to just get worse.
Bruce Willis Diagnosed With Frontotemporal Dementia
People Magazine reported that Emma updated folks on February 16 about her husband’s health. Unfortunately, he seems to be sliding into a place that can only make him even less likely to communicate properly. She said, “Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD).”
Bruce Willis, she added, will face more than just “challenges with communication.” According to The Mayo Clinic, “There’s currently no cure or specific treatment for frontotemporal dementia.” Symptoms can include “motor disorders” similar to those found in patients with “Parkinson’s disease.” Often, balance becomes affected and mobility becomes difficult.
Other Health Concerns
Bruce Willis will possbly have difficulty with behavioral problems. Caused by atrophy in the brain, various things might affect different patients. Some people might experience eating disorders, demonstrate a “lack of judgment,” or fail to understand both spoken and written language. Unfortunately, as time goes by, the symptoms tend to worsen.
Therapy might help a bit, but medications can have toxic side effects. For Bruce, life will never be the same again. However, we’re willing to bet that his family will do their utmost to try and make his life as comfortable as they can.
