While Candace Cameron Bure is mostly in a healthy place, she blames child acting for her disordered eating in the past.

Great American Family actress and producer Candace Cameron Bure recently opened up on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast. They spoke about child acting and the negative effect this can have on one. While she is now mostly in a healthy place, Candace did admit that she is still aware of the eating disorder she had as a child.

These days, Candace Cameron Bure is an actress and executive producer, who is establishing herself at Great American Family after leaving the Hallmark Channel. However, as her fans know, she was a child actress, molded by the public nature of her work. Meanwhile, the structure, together with her journey into married life and motherhood, led to an eating disorder.

She recently appeared on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast, where she spoke of her struggle. It turns out Bure and Bialik found it easy to relate, as Mayim was also a child star in NBC’s Blossom. This fact also led to an eating disorder, but they both agreed that the impulse to control their eating was worsened by their strict, professional upbringing.

Food as a comfort or a battle

Bure explained that food is still something that is both a comfort and a battle for her. She said:

It’s like, you know, I’ve gotten into a healthy place for the most part … but I’m still very aware of it. And there’s days like, ‘Oh, this is a trigger for me. And if I pick this up to eat this, this is not going to end well.’ And then I have to consciously make a good choice.

Meanwhile, Mayim explained that in her case, she was an “expert grazer.” She would either eat nothing or graze all day in several 20-minute intervals. Bialik added:

I was really good at that because it’s a form of restricting that doesn’t feel out of control.

Moreover, Candace explained that she has replaced one unhealthy coping mechanism with one that is good for her, namely working out. Bure explained that exercise has become a good form of comfort for her because it truly helps her mental state.

The Fuller House star added that if she doesn’t exercise for seven to 10 days, she’ll immediately notice it in her mental state. In fact, she needs to release those endorphins. However, Candace did add that she doesn’t work out to lose weight. While exercise does benefit how she feels or looks in her clothes, losing weight is not her motivation.
