After Netflix’s Daredevil which ran from 2015 through 2018 was stopped, fans kept on calling for a return of the blind Lawyer in the day, superhero at night to their screens.
2021’s Spiderman: Far From Home saw the blind lawyer cameo in the film. It gave fans hope that there may be plans to bring Daredevil back to our screens.
Early this year, it was announced that the Film Daredevil will be returning to our screens but, this time around, it’ll no longer be a Netflix series but a Disney+ production. It’s been titled “Daredevil: Born Again.”
Charlie Cox — What Cox Had To Say About The New Disney+ Series
Charlie Cox who played the role of Matt Murdoch of Nelson and Murdoch Law Office also made several appearances in this year’s “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.”
While the Netflix version featured Cox’s character always badly beaten to a pulp, the actor shares with NME in an interview, “This [new series] has to be a reincarnation, it has to be different, otherwise why are we doing it?”
Speaking of the scenes where he had to be badly beaten up to the point of near death, Cox said that it might not be the case with the new series. “My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience. My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.”
Seems like Disney+ has a target audience in mind for Daredevil: Born Again. Maybe it might not feature the superhero in the light we once saw him.
Speaking to NME concerning what fans should or should not expect from the character, Cox said, “I would say to those people, ‘We’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”
Charlie Cox — The Film Is Not A Continuation Of Netflix’s Daredevil
According to Cox, he was told that the film won’t be season four but season 1. “The fact that Kevin talks about it as being a season one, rather than a season four, my feeling is this is a whole new deal.”
Cox also shared that the first season of Daredevil: Born Again would be a total of 18 episodes. “They said to me, ‘We’re going to be shooting in 2023,’ I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, ‘All 2023.’ I start shooting in February and finish in December.”
Speaking of the plot of the film, Cox said, “I’m imagining there’s going to be an element to it that is like the old-school procedural show,”
“Not necessarily case-of-the-week, but something where we go really deep into Matt Murdock the lawyer and get to see what his life is like. If that’s done right and he really gets his hands dirty with that world.”
“I think there’s something quite interesting about that, to spend a lot of time in a superhero’s day-to-day life and you really earn the moments when he suits up.”
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to be released in 2024.
