Controversial R&B singer Chris Brown is in jail in the UK. The popular performer had brushed up against the law many times in the past, hence his being booed during the 2022 American Music Awards (AMA). Why is he in trouble now? Read on to find out more.

In Jail In The UK

Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester, England, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. The arrest, per The Hollywood Reporter,  is in connection with an alleged assault that occurred in a London nightclub in February 2023.

Scheduled to perform in the country, the arrest took place just a few weeks ahead of his Breezy Bowl XX Tour. That is expected to start in the Netherlands.

The accusations leveled against the singer originated with music producer Abe Diaw. Allegedly, Diaw was unconscious after being beaten on the head with a tequila bottle. Reportedly, the assault that also allegedly involved punching and kicking left the producer hospitalized.

The UK police take that sort of thing seriously, and Chris was arrested. According to a statement by the Metropolitan Police, he was “charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.” He is expected to appear in Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 16, 2025.

A Violent History

Chris Brown shot into he headlines in 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. More recently, in 2020, he was also sued over accusations of allegedly drugging and raping a woman. Furthermore, in 2021, Brown faced additional accusations of allegedly hitting a woman.

Back in 2013, stories emerged that the singer had several stints in rehab that didn’t last due to him breaking the rules. One instance in November 2013 saw him get kicked out after he supposedly threw a rock at his mother’s car window during a family therapy session.

Later, in March 2014, he was once again asked to leave a rehab center. While the immediate reason given wasn’t specifically about it, the expulsion followed reports of him allegedly having an improper relationship with a female staff member. In that instance, he denied that he did anything wrong at all. See marker 57:21 for that in the video below.

Reactions To The New Arrest

When CTV News reported on the latest UK arrest on YouTube, music fans had something to say. One irritated viewer said, “The idols they pick for your daughters.”

Here are a few more reactions:

  • When is this guy gonna grow up[?]
  • Wow shocking NOT.
  • He did this many times.

Admittedly, not everyone felt that the story had much merit, and one of them complained that people try and take Chris Brown “down maliciously.” That claim originated with the singer himself. Years ago, he claimed that every time he released new music, unfounded allegations arrived.
