Following the news of the actor’s health which made headlines, and coupled with his acting break, it was said that the “Men in Black: International” actor will be taking time off acting due to his health issues.

A source that claimed to be close to the actor even told “Page Six” at the time that Hemsworth “doesn’t plan to take many roles,” and further said that retirement plans is not out of the question.

Recently, the star of “Extraction 2” who just concluded his press tours for National Geographic docuseries “Limitless” told “Entertainment Weekly” that the news was actually “overdramatized.”

Chris Hemsworth — Hemsworth Explains The Reason For His Break

The “Interceptor” actor who shares three children, a daughter India, 11, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, 9, with his actress wife Elsa Pataky told “EW” that his acting break and his health news were mixed up.

He explained that his reason for taking a break was quite different from the one published by the media. “I decided to take some time off because I was exhausted, and I wanted to be home with my family,” said Hemsworth to the outlet.

He continued, “It was interesting, because those two headlines got coupled together, that I was taking time off because of the genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s.”

Last year November, “Vanity Fair” shared that the 39-year-old actor discovered he has two copies of the APOE4 gene — a gene that has been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s — while filming the docuseries “Limitless.”

Speaking with EW, Hemsworth said, “That experience and that show [Limitless] made me go, ‘Oh wow, none of us are invincible.” He continued, “It kind of slams you into the moment. You start asking bigger questions, and you think, ‘I need to slow down and just experience this moment now and not have the years race by.'”

He also added, “It was a positive in that sense, but it got a little overdramatized, like I was potentially retiring because of this thing. Which just isn’t the case.”

Chris Hemsworth — How Hemsworth Felt About His Diagnosis

While there’s a possibility of Hemsworth not having the disease in the future, Hemsworth’s grandfather has the disease, and from what his DNA states, Hemsworth stands a high risk of developing it in the future.

While speaking with Vanity Fair that year, the dad of three said at the time, “My concern was I just didn’t want to manipulate it and overdramatize it, and make it into some sort of hokey grab at empathy or whatever for entertainment, it’s not like I’ve been handed my resignation.”

In an episode of the docuseries “Limitless,” titled “Memory,” a doctor told Hemsworth about the possibility of having Alzheimer’s. The actor told Vanity Fair, “The show, which initially was an exploration of longevity and, of course, should be fun, became even more relevant and important for me, even more poignant than I ever thought it would be.”

“It was a really good catalyst to dive into everything I needed to be doing in either the prevention front or the management front or however you want to classify it, it’s not a pre-deterministic gene, but it is a strong indication.”
