Jada Pinkett Smith – Feels Chris Rock Doesn’t Understand Her
In the months that have passed since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, Jada Pinkett Smith hasn’t talked to Rock. And she told People that she hopes those impacted can achieve “peace.”
But reflecting on whether she wants to sit down with Rock and hash it out, Jada stated, “Here’s my desire: I just hope that all the misunderstanding around this can be cleared up.”
But Will’s wife also hopes for a peaceful conclusion to the Oscars scandal. And Jada then shared that she thinks Rock doesn’t understand her.

“I think that there might be some misunderstanding between Chris and I as far as the 2016 Oscars. I think that he might’ve taken offense, which I meant no harm in offending. That wasn’t my intention. But I do think that there’s a big misunderstanding there,” said the 52-year-old.
In 2016, the acting nominations didn’t include any actors of color. And Jada spoke out in support of the #OscarsSoWhite movement, urging for a boycott. When Rock hosted that year, he joked about Jada. And Rock later claimed that she told him to quit the hosting gig.

But until the 2022 Oscars, Jada thought that she and Rock had achieved peace. “And we hadn’t talked since then, until 2022 came,” she revealed. After Will slapped Chris, Rock talked to Jada directly.

And she recalled, “Chris came down to the end of the stage and tried to apologize to me. He said, ‘I didn’t mean you any harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is some old s—.’ I’ve got to leave that to Will and Chris to talk about, but they got their stuff for sure.”
However, Jada also recalled how Chris once wanted to date her. His invitation to spend time together came amid rumors that Will and Jada planned to divorce. “I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce,” she recalled.

And amid the divorce rumors, Rock called Jada. “He called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”
As for the divorce rumors, Will and Jada secretly separated seven years ago. And she explained, “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.” But Jada also vowed that the two will never find “a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through … whatever.”
