Christine Lakin On Firing From Fuller House For Mocking Candace Cameron Bure’s Brother

Back in 2018, actress Christine Lakin had recently given birth and was looking forward to getting back into acting. She had an opportunity to star in the Full House reboot, Fuller House, but was quickly fired. Meanwhile, Lakin believes this happened because she mocked Candace Cameron Bure’s brother, Kirk Cameron.

When production started on the Netflix reboot of Full House, Fuller House, fans were excited to see their favorite TV family returning to the small screen. It turns out the American actress and director, Christine Lakin was to also star in the show. Lakin is best known for her role as Alicia “Al” Lambert on the 1990s ABC/CBS sitcom Step by Step.

While Christine was excited to star in Fuller House, she believes she was fired from the cast for mocking Candace Cameron Bure’s brother, Kirk Cameron.

Lakin, 45, recently appeared on Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber’s podcast, How Rude, Tanneritos! where she shed light on why she never got to star in Fuller House.  She explained that she was close to appearing in the second season of the Netflix reboot, but things went wrong.

Meanwhile, Christine was approached for a role in the sitcom shortly after giving birth in September 2018, and she was looking forward to getting back to work.

“About two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, ‘Yes, something happened,’” she said, recalling how they told her, “‘They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite.’” Lakin continued, saying:

The next day happened and my manager calls and says, ‘Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve been let go.

And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said, ’Yeah, they just said they’re rewriting the character and they’re not going to need you anymore. And I was like, ‘What did I do wrong?’ I didn’t even go to a table read.

Lakin tried to find out why she was fired

The actress asked a friend who wrote for the show what had happened but got no answer. However, the more she thought about it, Christine started speculating that this could be because she would star alongside Cameron Bure. On the podcast, she explained:

I participated in a Funny or Die video that a friend of mine made and at the time, Funny or Die had just come out.

Kirk Cameron [Cameron Bure’s brother] had said some public things about the LGBTQ community and I thought those were very damaging.

It was in 2012 that Lakin and others said they were “pledging to raise awareness about a serious threat to our civil rights: Kirk Cameron’s stupid opinions” in a Funny or Die clip. This came after Cameron made several homophobic remarks.

USA Today quotes Lakin as saying, “I’ve tried to use humor to sort of pop that bubble of discord or maybe call people out in a satirical way,” adding, “So I participated in it, and it went viral and bunch of other people in it and blah, blah, blah. And all I can think of is that it created some bad blood and seven years later, my presence was not wanted. That’s maybe what I think.”

Moreover, Lakin said “It was a bummer” for her.

Meanwhile, Cameron Bure later spoke to People, saying:

All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people. It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone.
