Cillian Murphy Shares His Thoughts On Filming ‘Red Eye’ With Rachel McAdams

There are actors who don’t fancy watching their own movies for one reason or the other, “Peaky Blinders” star Cillian Murphy is one of them.

The actor recently sat in an interview with GQ and discussed a number of things among which is his thoughts on the 2005 film “Red Eye” which he starred alongside the “Mean Girls” actress Rachel McAdams.

The film had Cillian play a terrorist who terrorized Rachel on a red eye flight to Miami by threatening Rachel— who played the part of a hotel manager— with the life of her father if she doesn’t play along with his demands.

In his interview, the Oppenheimer” actor told the outlet that as much as he enjoyed filming the movie with Rachel, he never cared to watch it and he also thinks that the movie isn’t all that.

“I love Rachel McAdams and we had fun making it. But I don’t think it’s a good movie. It’s a good B movie,” said Cillian to the outlet. He also spoke about his Villain character in Red Eye and why he was eager to play the part. “I think it’s the duality of it. It’s why I wanted to play it. That two thing. The nice guy and the bad guy in one. The only reason it appealed to me is you could do that turn, you know?”

Cillian Murphy — Cillian Thinks He Performed Poorly In ‘Red Eye’

Even though Rachel, 45, who was also present in the interview with GQ told the outlet that Cillian is a good guy and how, “They say the nicest people sometimes make the best villains,” the 47-year-old actor admitted that he rarely watches the movies he starred in and one of his reasons for that is most of those movies don’t turn out great. “Many of my films I haven’t seen,” he said. “I know that Johnny Depp would always say that, but it’s actually true. Generally, the ones I haven’t seen are the ones I hear are not good.”

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Cillian had something to say about “Red Eye.” In 2021, the actor told “Uproxx” in an interview that he stayed away from watching “Red Eye” because he felt his performance in the film wasn’t up to par. “The honest answer is I haven’t seen that movie since it came out like 15 or 16 years ago, whenever it was. I also think that, when I was a younger actor, I was really, really hard on everything that I was in.” he said at the time.

“I hated watching myself. I hated looking at myself on screen. I remember when I saw it was like ‘Oh, that’s kind of a schlocky B movie. Rachel McAdams is excellent in it.’ But I didn’t think I gave a very nuanced performance in it.” He went on to add, “But, listen, if people love the movie then that’s great.”
