Cillian Murphy Slams Press Tours As A BROKEN Thing

If you’re like Cillian Murphy, you’re probably wondering why movies still require their stars to go on a press tour in this our day and age.

Even though “Oppenheimer” dropped several months ago – last year July to be exact – Murphy and his co-stars are still doing press tours to keep promoting the already successful movie.

Quite alright that they’re now in their final stages, but the star is already fatigued and believes his co-stars to be bored as well. See what he has to say about “Oppenheimer’s” extensive press tour.

Cillian Murphy – Wishes Actors Didn’t Have To Do Heavy Promotional Campaign For Movies

An actor’s job doesn’t end on set. Even after dedicating weeks and months – sometimes even years – to see a project through, you’ll have to get comfortable with the idea of gracing red carpets with your co-stars and doing interviews and all sorts of other things to promote the movie.

If you asked Murphy, he’d tell you that he wishes this part of the job didn’t fall to actors. And that is exactly what he did in his latest GQ cover interview.

“I think it’s a broken model,” he said, before admitting that he was somewhat relieved by the Hollywood strikes, which came right after the film’s release, because it meant they couldn’t hit the road for sometime. “The model is — everybody is so bored.”

Even though its stars couldn’t embark on a press tour at the time, it by no means hurt the biographical drama’s chances of success. To date, the film has grossed $955 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing biographical drama in film history.

“Same was the case with ‘Peaky Blinders,’” Murphy pointed out. “The first three seasons there was no advertising, a tiny show on BBC Two; it just caught fire because people talked to each other about it.”

“It’s like Joanne Woodward said,” he added. “‘Acting is like sex—do it, don’t talk about it’ … People always used to say to me, ‘He has reservations’ or ‘He’s a difficult interviewee.’ Not really! I love talking about work, about art. What I struggle with, and find unnecessary, and unhelpful about what I want to do, is: ‘Tell me about yourself…’”

Another thing Murphy does not do, apart from keeping his personal life private, is watch his movies that he feels aren’t good. He apparently learnt his lesson when he watched “Red Eyes” and thought it was a “schlocky B movie.”
