Danny DeVito – On Reprising His Role In Tim Burton’s “Batman Returns”
Everybody wants to play Batman these days, but not Danny DeVito. No, he’s actually good with playing the villainous Penguin.
The star shared his interest to return once more to his old tricks as the Penguin at an exclusive cocktail reception to celebrate the official launch of Hulu on Disney+ on April 5.
During the course of the evening, the 79-year-old “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star spoke to PEOPLE about having “had a ball” when he presented at the Oscars alongside longtime pal Schwarzenegger, 76. He then went on to tease that they are “planning to work together again.”
In fact, he went ahead and suggested that the two of them could reunite onscreen for another epic showdown with the Gotham superhero ( DeVito played The Penguin in the 1992 movie “Batman Returns,” while Schwarzenegger starred as the villain Mr. Freeze in 1997’s “Batman & Robin.”
“Oh, I don’t know. I don’t think it’s a bad idea because you got Keaton, you got [Schwarzenegger], you got DeVito. We could do those same parts. Yeah, why not?” he told PEOPLE, before jokingly adding, “Go tell [co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros] Pam Abdi to do that. And [MGM chairman] Mike DeLuca.”
For DeVito to portray the crazy and maniacal villain, he was fitted with a prosthetic nose and sharp teeth, and made paler.
Whereas DeVito starred opposite Michael Keaton’s Batman, Schwarzenegger was Mr. Freeze to George Clooney’s Batman.
In real life though, these two enemies of Batman are actually real good friends. Though you’d usually find one working out all the time, and the other not so much.
