Dennis Quaid – Hints Jealousy At Meg Ryan’s Rising Popularity Ruined Their Marriage
It takes a big man to admit that his emotions quite got away from him and ruined a beautiful thing that he had. During his interview on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Dennis Quaid, 70, reflected on his marriage to fellow actress Meg Ryan and why that is still a beautiful thing to him to this day.
“When I met Meg, I was here as far as career thing, and she was here,” he said, using his hands to indicate how he was above Ryan in the popularity pool at the time. “And then it just [switched] like that,” he said, changing his hand positions.
The reality of Ryan’s rising popularity wasn’t something that he easily received at the time, as he added, “I try to be a big person and tell myself that it didn’t bother me, but people are human. She was ascending as I went into rehab.”
Two decades later and he’s made his peace with it, as well as learned his lessons.
“Meg is really such a great, sweet person, and really talented, and deserved all of her success,” The ‘Parent Trap’ alum said. “I don’t regret anything about my marriage to Meg. We got Jack Quaid out of it, who is really going on to maybe I think eclipse both of us.”
In terms of Jack’s success, he’s managed to snag starring roles in hit movies such as, ‘The Boys,’ ‘Ithaca’ and ‘Plus One,’ as well as lend his voice talent to cartoons like ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ and ‘My Adventures with Superman.’
Dennis Quaid – Talks Feeling Small In Comparison To Meg Ryan’s Fame
Since their divorce, Quaid has been married twice. He’s currently married to Laura Savoie since 2020, and before that he was previously married to Kimberly Buffington from 2004 to 2018.
While Ryan hasn’t been married since, she was briefly engaged to John Mellencamp from 2018 to 2019.
In a 2018 interview with Megyn Kelly, Quaid also touched on his marriage to Ryan, 62.
“When we met I was the big deal,” Quaid said during an appearance on Megyn Kelly TODAY. “We’d go out on the streets of New York and it would be like, ‘Meg! Meg!’ And I have to admit it, I actually did feel like I disappeared. I didn’t think I was that small, but I was. It was a growth opportunity — I learned from that.”
At the time, he declared that he still views his marriage to Ryan as “the most successful relationship of my life.”
