Did Eddie Murphy Roast Will Smith Or Support Him?

We’re waaay over the Will Smith/Chris Rock famous Oscars slap that was “heard around the world”. Yes, it was the talk of the internet for months after it happened and several comedians, including Trevor Noah, tapped into the virality of the controversy.

This very public spat saw stars taking sides, with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Mia Farrow, Janet Hubert, and others siding with Will Smith against the comedian for what many saw as a tasteless joke, especially as it’s widely known that Jada Pinkett Smith, who the joke was leveled at, suffered from alopecia.

In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith’s wife’s shaved head at the 2022 Oscars. While many in the audience found it funny, Jada didn’t. Will Smith got angry, stepped onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock.

He then warned him to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth before walking back to his seat.

So naturally, in the coming months, all everybody wanted to do was talk about Jada. Eddie Murphy is kind of telling us to respect ourselves on that front.

Eddie Murphy – Jokes About Knowing How To Succeed In the Entertainment Industry

We’re in 2023 and the Oscars controversy is so last year, but fans did give Eddie Murphy a pass for rehashing the old feud at this year’s Golden Globes Awards.

While accepting his Cecil B. DeMille Award, an honorary award presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”, the comedian made a joke that sent the audience wild.

The “Dr. Dolittle” star started by telling the audience of his many years in the entertainment industry. “I’ve been in show business for 46 years, and I’ve been in the movie business for 41 years, so this has been a long time in the making and greatly appreciated,” he began his speech.

Then he decided to offer some much-needed advice to newcomers in the industry by giving them a 3-step plan on how to suceed in Hollywood.

“I wanna let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind,” he said.

What’s the secret then? First, he told folks to pay their taxes. The second scheme was that they should mind their business. And the last and best of all, “Keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f—ing mouth!”

The audience clapped and roared with laughter at the joke. Later on, Murphy would go on to clarify that he’s friends with both Smith and Rock, so no bad blood here folks.
