For fans of “The Princess Diaries”, Disney’s announcement of an upcoming third movie is sure to be more than a miracle they believe in. For so many years following Mia Thermopolis’ royal journey in the sequel of the hit show, fans have patiently speculated and waited on the news of a sequel.

Everytime a former star on the show shares their enthusiasm to do another sequel, fans held their breath. But hold your breath no more, because “Princess Diaries 3” is in production. The only thing that’s making this news a little less fun is that Anne Hathaway’s return has not yet been confirmed.
Will their be a new Mia Thermopolis, or, will there even be any Mia Thermopolis?
What Anne Hathaway Has Said About Returning For A Potential “The Princess Diaries” Sequel
At the moment, Disney has not thought it necessary to announce whether our beloved and clumsy Princess Mia will be returning in the third installment of “The Princess Diaries”. However, Anne Hathaway, who played Mia in both movies, has formerly shared her enthusiasm to reprise her role whenever she’s called into action.
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it,” Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight of the movie that skyrocketed her to fame. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work.”

Julie Andrews, on the other hand, admitted that Anne Hathaway would still be right for the role, even if she, Julie Andrews, isn’t anymore.
This next chapter will be written by Aadrita Mukerji, who is known for her work on “Supergirl” and “Reacher”, and it will take place in the small fictional country Genovia.
Even though Hathaway and Andrews’ (Andrews being the grandmother and former Queen, Clarisse Renaldi) return has not yet been confirmed, it’s clear that Disney is not vying for a reboot, but rather wants to expand on the story that ended when Mia marries her true love and becomes Queen.
Both the first and second movies of “The Princess Diaries” were both well-received from fans, who simply loved going through the diary of Mia Thermopolis, a normal American teenager who learns that she’s the heir to an European country.

The only question was why Disney waited so long. I mean, the movie’s lead star has clocked 40 and Prince William, who was portrayed as an absolute sweetheart and hot royal in the second part of the movie, is now bald and married with three children.
So basically, Disney will be trying to sell the movie to a whole new generation. We’ll see how that works out and which direction they’ll choose to go.
