Dolly Parton Turns 78 With Gift For Fans
To celebrate her 78th birthday, Dolly Parton unveiled a gift for her fans and friends. And that included a rock version of her legendary song Jolene, along with a deluxe edition of her album, Rockstar, per Us.
But Dolly kept the announcement informal. And she turned to social media to share her gift for her birthday.
“I’m releasing four never-released songs for my birthday to go with the Rockstar album and a few others that you may have heard before that were not on the album,”
Parton posted on her Friday, January 19 birthday. “I hope you enjoy them, and I hope you all have a happy birthday for me! LOL.”
Dolly Parton Releases New Rock Version Of Jolene
And fans went wild to learn that a new, never-before-released rock version of Jolene numbered among Dolly’s new offerings. However, she did get some support in weaving southern rock soul into her popular song. And Maneskin, known as the Italian rock stars of “Beggin’,” teamed up with Dolly.

As a result, lead singer Damiano David and Parton transformed Jolene into a duet. And the band wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, “Still soooo honored to have joined Dolly Parton for singing the iconic Jolene.”
As a result of the new work, Parton’s Rockstar (Deluxe) has added nine tracks to her 2023 release. And they include new versions of her original songs “Rockin’ It” and “Mama Never Said.” But the new version of “Stay out of My Bedroom” originates from the soundtrack to Rhinestone, the 1984 musical comedy featuring Dolly and Sylvester Stallone.

And additional new music includes Dolly’s versions of Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise,” Billie Joel’s “The Entertainer” and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” Dolly’s Rockstar album debuted in November 2023 at No. 3 before hitting the top of Billboard’s 200 album chart. And it became Parton’s first No. 1 album in the chart’s 32-year-old history.

However, the 30-track album includes stars ranging from Lizzo to Parton’s goddaughter, Miley Cyrus. And Dolly shared her motivation for creating the album. “I wanted to make a record of major rock classics that reflected those songs, true to the rhythm, in my voice,” revealed the songstress.
And reflecting on the contributions from other artists, Parton added, “I did my dead-level best to make an album I and the people whose songs I covered could be proud of.” As a result, she feels that the album represents “some of my best work. I may get praised or criticized for this album,” added Dolly. “But nobody can say I didn’t give it all I had.”
