Dolly Parton Celebrates Birthday: Grand Ole Opry Honors Country Music ‘Ambassador’!

Dolly Parton celebrates her birthday on January 19. And to honor the legendary country singer, the Grand Ole Opry revealed some special plans.

For instance, Opry Goes Dolly will honor Parton. And the event includes a series of guest artists and Dolly-themed surprises. Get all the details below.

Dolly Parton Celebrates Her Birthday

On January 19th, the Grand Ole Opry will hold the Opry Goes Dolly event to celebrate Dolly Parton’s birthday. And two shows, one at 7 pm and one at 9:30 pm, will take place at the historic Ryman Auditorium, per the Music Universe.

Born on January 19, 1946, Dolly has inspired other musicians. As a result, the Opry Goes Dolly event will include guest artists doing their best to honor Parton. And special guests include Elle King, Ashley Monroe, and Tigirlily Gold.

And the daytime backstage tours at the Grand Ole Opry House and the Ryman Auditorium include the chance to look at Dolly’s memorable wardrobe.

For instance, those participating in the tours can look at Dolly’s jumpsuit from the Opry House opening night in 1974. And the frock from the TV special, Dolly and Carol In Nashville, featuring Carol Burnett and Dolly Parton, highlights the design of Bob Mackie.

Dolly Parton Becomes Country Music Ambassador

And the website for the auditorium also made sure to wish the songstress “Happy Birthday, Dolly!” In the announcement of the event, the organization shared, “Opry Goes Dolly will celebrate Opry member Dolly Parton. Country music’s greatest global ambassador and an artist, [she] takes the Opry with her wherever she goes.”

However, the announcement noted that “Parton will not appear in-person.” But the “special Friday night show, in celebration of the icon’s birthday, will feature artists to perform their favorite Dolly hits.” And with “Dolly-themed events, photo-ops on the Plaza and more, we’ll celebrate Dolly’s birthday on the Ryman Tour.” Highlights include “special Dolly cupcakes, a giant birthday card to sign, and an exclusive Dolly dress on display!”

And the announcement noted, “$5 from every ticket sold to the Jan. 19 show will be donated to the Opry Trust Fund in Parton’s honor. For more than 50 years, the fund has assisted members of the country music community in need. The Opry is making its return to the iconic Ryman Auditorium.” 

Dolly Parton Hits High Notes

And last year saw Parton hit a series of high notes. For instance, her Rockstar album became a stand-out in 2023. And the Big Machine Label Group has distributed the album via Butterfly Records. But to celebrate, the Opry Shop includes a Rockstar pop-up shop throughout January. And it offers Dolly music and merchandise. For instance, fans can buy Rockstar vinyl and CDs, Rockstar-themed t-shirts, and sweatshirts. 

And Parton penned her new book, which quickly became a New York Times best-seller. Titled “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” the book honors Dolly’s legendary style. And it comes as part of a series, with the first book issued in 2020 and titled “Songteller: My Life in Lyrics.”
