Dolly Parton’s College Courses Will “Celebrate and Amplify” Her Life and Music

Dolly Parton has been big on inspiring young minds and building their creativity, from donating books to underprivileged schools and children, to supporting new Grand Old Opry members and even cheering on new artists. Wherever inspiration is needed, you can count on Dolly to be there.

In a way, she’s going to keep doing this since Belmont University in Nashville launched a coursework on Jan. 28 that will “celebrate and amplify the life and music of Dolly Parton.”

Despite her many years in the spotlight, Dolly’s career is still far from being a dwindling light. In fact, a musical about the “Jolene” hitmaker is coming to Broadway in 2026.

Parton originally visited the school in Jan. 19 to announce her partnership with them, which includes staging the world premiere of “Dolly: The Original Musical” before it debuts on Broadway next year.

Dolly U will kick off during Belmont’s spring semester, with students getting to contribute to the upcoming “Dolly” debut. This is slated for a week-long run at the university’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts.

Belmont said the coursework centered around Parton will “foster and inspire creativity, innovation and character development in a rising generation of entertainment and community leaders.”

It will further create “opportunities to participate in aspects of the production, working alongside the musical’s professional cast, creative, and producing teams, as it is developed and premieres at the Fisher Center this summer.

In addition, new project-based courses are being offered during the spring semester in subjects such as marketing, brand partnerships, and merchandising, providing students hands-on opportunities with the musical while receiving course credit.”

Parton couldn’t be prouder of her partnership with Belmont University, since close friends and relatives have passed through the walls of the great academy.
