Dolly Parton Delves Into Politics For the First Time In Her Long Career: Why?

We’re loving this bold new rock-era Dolly Parton. The “Jolene” songstress is no longer biting down her tongue when it comes to political issues, not when it affects millions of lives on a daily basis.

And if you’re looking forward to seeing the country legend side with any political party, you really should think again.

Dolly Parton’s “World On Fire” Includes Snide Takedown Of the Dirty Game of Politics

When Dolly Parton devotes to something, she really gets into it. In her debut single, “World On Fire,” from her upcoming rock album, Parton, for the first time in a career that’s spanned for over six decades, addressed the state of modern-day politics, singing, “Don’t get me started on politics/Now how are we to live in a world like this/Greedy politicians, present and past/They wouldn’t know the truth if it bit ’em in the ass.”

During a recent internet on The Today Show, one of the hosts asked her what she meant by those lines, and if they are addressing any particular set of politicians.

In response, she insists the lines are talking about any and all of them, adding, “I don’t think any of them are trying hard enough… They worry more about their party than they do about the people.”

She then shared that we can make politics a better playing ground “if we just do what we felt was the right thing rather than who’s going to lose or who’s going to win this, or who’s going to look better if they do this.”

What Fans Think About Dolly Parton’s Opinions On Politics

Even though it’s a departure from the Dolly Parton of old, who usually shies away from anything relating to politics, fans still welcomed it happily. In fact they were so happy about it that they even thought she should “run for president.”

In 2017, we previously heard Parton’s thoughts on politics after she attended that year’s Emmy awards with her “9 to 5” Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin and they fired off about then-President Trump.

Not long after, the singer, author and businesswoman told The Guardian, “I don’t like to be known by the company I keep, so to speak. I want to be my own individual self. If I’ve got something to say, I’ll say it, but I don’t want to be dragged into it.”

About the uncomfortable scene at the event, she said: “I just did not want everybody to think that whatever they think is what I think. I don’t really like getting up on TV and saying political things. I don’t even want to make a deal out of it, but I want people to know I’m my own individual self.”

She added: “I’ve got as many Republican friends as I’ve got Democrat friends and I just don’t like voicing my opinion on things.”
