For 56 years Dolly Parton has entertained us with her beautiful golden voice. For 56 years, Dolly has touched lives with her incredible country music. She’s been going on tours all her career, but, not anymore. Dolly announced on Oct. 27 that, when it comes to touring the world, she has decided to hang her “Coat of Many Colors” which her momma made for her.
In an interview with Pollstar Magazine, Dolly, 76 said, “I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore. I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy.”
Dolly Parton — Dolly’s Reason For Retiring
Of course, there’s always a reason for everything and Dolly has a good reason for retiring. While still speaking with Pollstar Magazine, the “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” singer explained that she’s quitting touring, and staying home because of her husband. According to Dolly, she and her husband Carl Thomas Dean who have been married for 56 years are not getting younger.
“I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband,” said the “Bobby’s Arms” singer. “We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me.”
Dolly also said that she won’t be happy if she goes on one of her tours and one of her loved ones falls sick at home, and she isn’t around to do something. Or, a situation where she would have to cancel on her fans to rush home for an emergency. “I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans.”
Although fans were hurt by the news from their favorite county music icon, they seem to take the news well. Someone said, “Dolly Parton won’t tour again – *screams in agony*,” while another said, “Sad Day. Dolly Parton is retiring from touring.”
Dolly Parton — Dolly Will Keep Making Music
Relax now guys, hold in your tears for even though Dolly hung her tour guitar, she still has her singing guitar hanging pretty on her shoulders.
The “Islands In The Stream” singer has revealed that she will still be making music. She only quit tour performances, not music. Dolly also revealed that, after she was nominated for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame she felt inspired to do an album on Rock and Roll.
“Why not just go ahead and do it while the iron’s hot. Maybe have some of the greats, the legends of rock ‘n’ roll sing along with me.” She said that she would be re-recording her “Stairway to Heaven” cover.
Dolly has already thought this through because, speaking of the legends that would feature in her album she mentioned, Robert Plant, and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin who were the original singers of “Stairway to Heaven.”
As for her collaborators, don’t you think the song would be incomplete without the voice of her goddaughter Miley Cyrus? Of course Miley is there! There’s also Ed Sheeran and Jimmy Fallon of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Dolly said that Jimmy “is a really good singer” even though “he doesn’t think so.”
