Last year, rumors started that Dolly Parton was so ill that she either died or was nearly dead. So, she proved she was alive. But toward the end of the year, the news arrived that she wasn’t all that well. This week, she shared an update on her health on social media. Read on for more details.
A Health Update
On Monday, the country music icon spoke directly to her 8.4 million followers on Instagram. In her video, Dolly Parton said, in part, “I am here to give you an update on a few things going on in my life. First, it’s concerning my health. And I have some good news and a little bad news.”
Next, she shared that she responds well to medical treatments and improves daily. However, she noted that her immune and digestive systems became “out of whack” over the last few years. She said her team is “working real hard on rebuilding and strengthening those.”

Notably, she kept it light and compared herself to an “old classic car” that needs “pistons” and other bits overhauled.
Residency Plans Change
The update follows a series of scheduling changes for the popular singer. According to NBC News, “Parton initially postponed her “Dolly: Live in Las Vegas” residency in 2025.” While those dates were moved to late 2026, she announced this week, that the shows were canceled.
Parton said she dealt with kidney stones and issues that leave her feeling “swimmy headed,” making it difficult to perform on stage.
Reassurance For Fans
Dolly Parton assured fans that her conditions are treatable. In her caption, she wrote, “Thank you for standing by me and showing me so much love and support over the past year. I’ve still got some healing to do, but I am on my way! See you soon.”
Music fans reacted to the news in the comments section with supportive messages. One of them sweetly said, “Take your time. You’ve earned a break and congrats on being named one of the top 30 songwriters of our time.”
