For many decades, Dolly Parton has been a globe trotting country music legend. Without children of her own, Parton was mostly on the road doing what she loves best: using her incredible talents to make people happy. But now, at 76, the “Jolene” singer seems eager to reel herself in.
It doesn’t mean that she’ll disappear completely, it only means she’ll cut back on the time she’s spending on the road.
Dolly Parton – Says Touring Takes “So Much Time And Energy”
Dolly Parton is no longer looking forward to touring her hit songs on a large scale. During an interview with concert trade publication Pollstar, the icon revealed that she is moving on from the heavy touring part of her life, as she has “no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore”.
As something Parton has admittedly done her “whole life”, she knows that “it takes so much time and energy,” to complete a “full-blown” world tour.
After decades of keeping busy on the road, Parton is hoping to slow down and spend more time with her husband Carl Thomas Dean.
“We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me, and then I had to walk out on the fans,” she explained.
Dolly Parton – Reveals Her Plans To Work On An LP With The “Legends Of Rock ‘N’ Roll”
It wasn’t all gloom news by the global star, as she said that she’s still open to doing special concerts or a few shows at festivals — especially since she’s planning on releasing a rock album. She also told Pollstar that the reason she chose this time to work on the rock project was tied to her recent nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“When I got nominated, I thought, ‘Why not just go ahead and do it while the iron’s hot?’ Maybe have some of the greats, the legends of rock ‘n’ roll sing along with me,” Parton said.
In the past, Parton has expressed her need to step away from the touring scene because of her age and personal priorities. In 2018, she told PEOPLE, “There’s a whole lot to be said for loving your work and having confidence in yourself. I never once thought of retiring.
“I just hope I fall dead in the middle of a song, hopefully one I wrote, right on stage. That’s the way I go! If my husband needed me, or someone in my family, I would put him first. I’ve always put myself first and my career first, but if something were to happen to him, I would pull back on that. I’d still find a way to work, still find a way to be productive.”
Whatever Parton is doing, whether it is working on music, releasing her first book with a bestselling author, or her various works with charities, she manages to always do it in the best way.
