Something fun and new will be back on our screens soon and it’s “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

Even though Barrymore is promising to abide by the rules set by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA and not promote her struck show, the writers union insists it will picket outside its New York studio on Monday and Tuesday regardless.

In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for WGA said, “It has stayed off the air since the strike began on May 2nd but has now (unfortunately) decided to return without its writers.

The Guild has, and will continue to, picket any struck show that continues production for the duration of the strike.”

This is coming after Barrymore shared the news of the return of her show’s fourth season in a lengthy Instagram post.

Reports suggest it will be returning on Sept. 18 and will follow the format of “The View” by running without any literary content.

In her Instagram post, Barrymore said the reason she walked away from hosting the MTV Film and TV Awards in May was to show solidarity with writers who had just gone on strike at the time.

“It had a direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streamers, film, and television,” she wrote in the post and caption.

“It was also in the first week of the strike and so I did what I thought was the appropriate thing at the time to stand in solidarity with the writers.”

She noted that the third season wasn’t affected by the strike because it had concluded its filming prior to the strike starting. She then went on to explain the reason the show is resuming.

“I own this choice,” Barrymore continued. “We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind. We launched live in a global pandemic. Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time.”

The new season will launch with new faces and new segments.
