Ella Travolta Honors Her Mom Kelly Preston In New ‘Little Bird’ Music Video

In a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Kelly Preston, Ella Bleu Travolta has released her latest single, “Little Bird,” which reflects on her grief and memories.

The song is featured on her upcoming EP, Colors of Love. At 24, the only daughter of John Travolta and Kelly Preston shared in an interview with People magazine that the experience of creating the track helped her feel her mother’s presence.

“I definitely felt [Preston] watching over me,” Ella told People, adding, “I knew that she was really proud of this whole process and of me.”

Processing Grief Through Music

Ella explained that growing up in the public eye brought attention, especially when dealing with personal loss. “There’s definitely the natural support and global support that comes with that,” she said.

However, this attention also brought external expectations about how she should feel or process her emotions. Despite the outside noise, Ella focused on her own memories, allowing herself to reflect on her unique bond with her mother.

“Little Bird” represents this reflection, with Ella describing the song as being “about holding on to those pure relationships that you have with people that you lost and really just listening to yourself and staying true to that relationship with that person.”

She also explained that the metaphor of a “mama bird talking to a baby bird” underpins the message of maintaining those connections despite the interference of outside influences.

The Symbolism of Birds

The bird imagery in “Little Bird” holds a special meaning for Ella and her mother. Kelly Preston viewed birds as a symbol of those who had passed making their presence known.

This symbolism resonated with Ella during the recording process, as she started noticing birds around her. “It had been a couple of years since my mom’s passing, so I could look at the whole situation, take a step back, and see what I wanted to communicate to her,” Ella reflected.

Ella wanted the song to serve as a celebration of her mother’s life, even amidst her grief. The music video for “Little Bird” features a compilation of some of her favorite home video moments with her family.

Ella said, “I think that’s so important, even when you lose someone, for it to be a celebration of their life because you got the chance to be with that person for as long as you did and you got to have these memories.”

John Travolta’s Tribute

After Kelly Preston’s death from breast cancer in 2020, John Travolta announced the news through an Instagram post, which read, “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.” He also took time to focus on being there for his children during that difficult time.

John and Kelly had three children together: Ella, Ben, 13, and Jett, who died suddenly at age 16 in 2009. Reflecting on her parents, Ella described them as “such a huge inspiration for a lot of things and how I lead my life.”

Ella’s Journey As An Artist

In addition to singing, Ella has dabbled in acting and modeling. She has also appeared next to her parents in Gotti (2019) and The Poison Rose (2019).

Ella starred in her first feature as the lead in the indie drama Get Lost (2020), and she made her New York Fashion Week runway debut in 2022.

Her father, John Travolta, expressed pride over his eldest daughter’s accomplishments on social media.

Ella debuted her music career in 2021 with her first release, Dizzy, as well as subsequent singles such as No Thank You. Today, her music is even more personal than before – and ‘Little Bird’ is a song she is especially emotional about.

As her music evolves, Ella remains grateful for the foundation her parents laid, highlighting how they infused joy into every moment, no matter how small.
