Ellen DeGeneres Launches New Netflix Special Detailing Her Fall From Hollywood’s Grace

Ellen DeGeneres Launches New Netflix Special Detailing Her Fall From Hollywood's GraceWhat’s Ellen DeGeneres‘ life like now that she isn’t one of Hollywood’s biggest and most beloved talkshow hosts and comedians? Well, for starters, she’s now a chicken coop lady.

Seriously though, the star is handling life out of the spotlight pretty well, and in her Netflix special she gets to show us just how.

Ellen DeGeneres Says She Should Have Changed Her “Be Kind” Motto To Avoid Getting Cancelled

DeGeneres is returning to our screens with her first stand-up comedy in six years, and she’s ready to catch us up on her life out of the spotlight.

“Well, let me catch up on what’s been going on with me since you saw me last. I decided to take up gardening. I got chickens,” DeGeneres says in the trailer for the Netflix special, ‘For Your Approval,’ adding as a punchline, “Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business.”

Hitting the giant streaming platform on Sept. 24, ‘For Your Approval’ arrives as the second of her two-special deal with Netflix. The first was 2018’s ‘Relatable,’ which marked her return to the stand-up stage in 15 years.

The comedian announced the upcoming special by revealing that it’ll not only be deeply personal, but it’ll be her last turn in the spotlight.

“The ‘Be Kind’ girl wasn’t kind, that was the headline,” she says in the trailer. “Here’s the problem, I’m a comedian who got a talk show and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be kind to one another.’ Had I ended the show by saying, ‘Go fuck yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”

Ellen DeGeneres – Says Bullying Allegations “Destroyed Me”

DeGeneres notably made headlines in 2020 when several staff members came forward to accuse her of causing a toxic atmosphere at her award winning Ellen DeGeneres show. She issued an apology at the time, but later decided to end the show a year later.

Even though she said the bullying accusations aren’t the reason she decided to call it quits, she did admit it contributed to the decision to leave showbiz behind.

“My whole being is about making people happy. And with the talk show, all I cared about was spreading kindness and compassion, and everything I stand for was being attacked,” she said in 2021. “So, it destroyed me, honestly. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t.”
