Ellen DeGeneres Says She’s ‘Done’ Being A Performer After Her Netflix Special

Ellen DeGeneres Says She's 'Done' Being A Performer After Her Netflix SpecialEllen DeGeneres will soon be retiring from show business. The 66-year-old comedian recently performed a three-night stand-up act in Santa Rosa, California, at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, as part of her “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up” tour.

During her appearance on July 1, Ellen discussed the cancellation of her talk show, her two-year absence from the spotlight, and hinted at a possible retirement soon.
Ellen’s Life Changes and Reflections

“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean,” Ellen teased, according to SFGate.

She then went on to discuss how this sudden change has affected her after she spent 19 fantastic years on TV, admitting that it’s made her more aware of her sensitivity. “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me,’” Ellen said. “Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”

Although she has not made much of an appearance in the media in recent years, she recently talked to Rolling Stone about her “cancellation” in Hollywood and her reputation off-screen compared to TV.

“The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind,” she said. “I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps. Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps?”

Addressing Allegations and Personal Growth

Ellen also teased, “Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay, and mean; the triple crown.” In response to the claims of a toxic work environment, she stated, “I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman. I am many things, but I am not mean.” She made it clear that, despite how it occasionally appeared, her intention was not to be mean.

Later in her show, Ellen stated that after reflecting on her mistakes, she is “done” with show business. “This is the last time you’re going to see me,” Ellen said. “After my Netflix special, I’m done.”

Her stand-up tour, which began in June, is planned to go until mid-August. However, she recently canceled several shows without providing an explanation.

Ellen’s Note on Retirement From Entertainment

When a fan asked if she planned to get involved on Broadway or in films, Ellen was quick to throw in corrections, “Um, no. This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.” She also expressed gratitude for her time on stage, saying, “Thank you for still caring!”

Ellen’s upcoming tour, “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up,” could be her last in the world of entertainment. With her Netflix stand-up special planned to premiere in late 2024, fans may soon bid goodbye to their favorite comedian for good.
