On Monday, Elon Musk conducted a poll on Twitter, where he claimed that he will step down as the platform’s CEO if he loses. Yep, you heard it right. The multi-billionaire actually promised that he will decide the future of a company he bought for $44 billion on the results of a Twitter poll.
Elon Musk – Says He’ll Run A Poll Everytime He Wants To Implement A Change On Twitter
Elon Musk seems to really love the Twitter poll feature maybe a tad too much.
To figure out if he should bring former US President Donald Trump’s profile back to the platform, Elon Musk conducted a poll that was voted on by over a million people. Since then, he’s been pretty in love with the polling stuff, even asking his fans whether he should unsuspend certain accounts and so on.
But after he got backlash for implementing a new policy that prevented people from sharing other social media links on Twitter, he promised to hold a poll every time there’s a major policy change happening on Twitter.
In line with this promise, he conducted a poll that read: “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.”
At the end of the period which saw over 17 million people vote, 57% voted for “yes”, while 43% voted “no”. It was a shock that he should lose especially as many of his famous fans asked their followers to vote for Musk to stay and keep running Twitter.
However, it was not enough to turn the tide.
A few hours later, he tweeted a cryptic message: “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, as you might get it.”
One of his most ardent supporters, Matt Wallace, encouraged people to vote for Musk to remain as Twitter’s CEO, writing: “I trust Elon Musk to run Twitter more than anyone else.”
Later on, after Elon Musk lost the poll, he shared a list of people who he felt would be a good replacement, but nevertheless asked the public if they really wanted Musk to go.
