You can bet that Sky Atlantic and Peacock is doing everything possible for ‘The Day of the Jackal’ to return as quickly as possible after the show became the best new series launched by the network this year.
Let’s just say that the show drew a massive fanbase and Sky Atlantic wants to keep feeding that fanbase. Shortly after Eddie Redmayne’s confirmation that he will be returning as the Jackal, aka the world’s most professional and elusive sniper, we’ve received more good news.
‘The Day Of The Jackal’ Season 2 To Continue the “Twist” At the End Of Season 1
You know that the Jackal does not like loose ends, and so, since the first season ended on a very shaky ground, Eddie Redmayne has announced that he will be returning for the second season.
“If there’s one thing that the Jackal can’t stand, it’s a loose end. So we will see you soon for season two,” Redmayne shared with fans across his social media channels.
Other returning cast members may potentially include Season 1 regulars like Charles Dance, Ursula Corberó, Khalid Abdalla, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Sule Rimi, Florisa Kamara and Nick Blood.
Yeah, if you haven’t watched to the very end of the series, you might not understand why Lashana Lynch’s name is not on the list. But don’t worry, I won’t spoil it for you.
Speaking of spoiling, Redmayne had previously confirmed that the show was always meant to have a follow-up, so while the fan response helped to get it there, it was never going to be a ‘Squid Game 2′ type situation. “When I signed on for the series, there was an aspiration for the Jackal story to continue. So I knew that was going to be the twist [at the end of series 1],” he said.
The show’s executive producer Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant told the Hollywood Reporter that there’s more story to be told. “There’s some serious bits of unfinished business,” Neame said, with Marchant adding, “We actually know what his priority is, in terms of what his next mission will be. He’s trying to find [his family]. Whether he does or not, let’s see.”
Production on the second season is yet to begin, so we’re looking at a late 2025/early 2026 premiere at the earliest.
