Johnny Depp To Play Ebenezer Scrooge In A New Adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’
Through the years, there’s been many movie adaptations of Charles Dickens’ famous holiday novel ‘A Christmas Carol,’ not excepting Barbie’s ‘A Christmas Carol.’ But with the help of Ti West, Johnny Depp wants to take a crack at his own unique adaptation.
Scrooge is a miserly character, who doesn’t believe in the joy and magic of Christmas. In the book, the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future arrive in time to change his mind before the New Year rolls in.
In a way, Scrooge is like the Grinch, if the Grinch was miserly and didn’t have a better reason to hate Christmas.
Slated for a November 13, 2026, the movie, which currently has the working title of ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol,’ will see Depp in the lead role as Ebenezer Scrooge. Emma Watts has been attached to produce the script written by Nathaniel Halpern.
This is one of the major movies announced by Paramount, following the successful completion of their Skydance merger.
It seems we’ll be having our fill of Scrooge next Christmas, because Paramount’s ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol’ comes after Warner Bros. put forward their own idea of ‘A Christmas Carol,’ with Willem Dafoe at the helm as Scrooge.
However, Depp’s version comes with a twist, as it is described as “a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, which follows one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance.”
