Expert Explains Reason Behind Nick Reiner’s Sinister Smile In Court

Expert Explains Reason Behind Nick Reiner's Sinister Smile In CourtNick Reiner is currently facing prosecution over the double murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. He’s chosen to outrightly plead “not guilty,” even to the bewilderment of many.

His “not guilty” claim is, of course, hinged around the argument that he is not mentally fit to commit a murder. Nick has long battled with drug and substance abuse – a reality in which he himself was once so open about.

Body Language Expert Calls Nick Reiner’s Smirk In Court “Interesting”

Nick Reiner appeared at a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on Monday, Feb. 23. At one point during the whole proceeding, Nick was observed to be quietly smirking to himself.

“There is a really interesting smirk where his head goes down and then he smiles,” body language expert, Susan Constantine, exclusively told Page Six. She then observed that Nick consciously tried to hide his emotions by tilting his head downwards.

Constantine referred to the expression as “a form of leakage” generally called “duper’s delight.”

“‘Duper’s delight’ is when a person gets a sense or rush or enjoyment,” she explained. “You will see that it’s almost like a sinister smile and it kind of leaks out at the most inappropriate moments.”

“It was an unconscious smirk of a sense of enjoyment or elation or excitement,” she said.

Constantine observed that once Nick became consciously aware that he was smirking he quickly “changed his behavior.”

The “How to Spot a Liar in 7 Seconds or Less” author further pointed out that Nick appeared to be under high levels of stress and paranoia as revealed by his pulsating jawline.

“His forehead shows a lot of worry,” she said. “His eyes show paranoia and fear — high levels of it. An intensity level of it.”

Appearing with a shaved head and sunken eyes, Nick Reiner, 32, mostly looked to be on his best behavior, even speedily agreeing to waive his rights to a speedy preliminary hearing.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 29. His parents l, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, were respectively 78 and 70 at the time of their gruesome murder on Dec. 14, 2025.
